From Milan, follow the directions to LECCO (S.S.36) and once in Lecco follow the indication to Sondrio (S.S.36).

After you pass Lecco and go through a long tunnel, the first exit (to the right) will be Abbadia Lariana, take this exit and then drive for about 15 Km. At this moment send Casa San Giorgio an SMS or give her a quick call at +39 366 6553770‬.

After Fiumelatte you will arrive at a fork in the road which is a tunnel and a lake side road. The lake side road to the left will take you to the center of Varenna.

As you arrive notice the parking garage on your right. Please drive past the garage and after the church turn left into the piazza where someone will be waiting for you to unload your bags. You will then be able to park in the garage, the cost is 20 euros a night for in and out access, or if you are lucky enough to find a white spot (around 150 meters from the piazza) free parking.

P.S. do not worry if you miss the exit after Lecco, there is a second exit at Bellano (about 20 km). Once you exit, follow the signs to Bellano. You will take many switch backs until you pass the train tracks and the road offers only a right or left turn. Take the left hand turn and follow the lake until you come to a fork in the road with two tunnels. Take the tunnel to your right (lakeside). Continue on until you arrive in the piazza of Varenna (about 1km) where you will turn right and find a member of the Casa San Giorgio Team waiting for you to help unload.

Distances:

At the Milano Centrale train station buy a ticket to Varenna-Esino. These trains take about one hour to reach Varenna and depart frequently from Milano Centrale (about once every hour). Make sure you book your ticket to Varenna-Esino and NOT to Como as arriving at Como is VERY inconvenient for you.

By plane:

From Malpensa Airport to Milano Centrale Train Station
You can either take a direct train (from terminal 1) to the Milan Central Station, or any of the shuttle buses heading to Milano Centrale train station, shuttle buses run every 20 minutes. Please note that while the buses cost less, the travel time is longer and there are always risks of getting rush hour traffic in the mornings and evenings.

From Linate Airport to Milano Centrale Train Station

From Bergamo Orio Airport to Varenna
You can either take a direct train to Lecco from the center of Bergamo (there is a public bus that goes to Bergamo train station outside the terminal) or take a shuttle bus to the Milan Central Station, shuttle buses run every 20 minutes. Please note that the travel time for busses is longer and there are always risks of getting rush hour traffic in the mornings and evenings.

From Bergamo station buy a ticket to Varenna Esino, you will be required to change trains in Lecco. The Bergamo train usually arrives at the same track that the train to Varenna will depart from, make sure the other train on the track is indeed going to Tirano or Sondrio.

On foot from Varenna-Esino train station to Casa San Giorgio
Casa San Giorgio is located about 15 minutes from the train station.

You have to take the road leading down to the main street, at the stop next to the Bar “Beretta” on the corner turn left and walk on this street towards the town centre of Varenna (about 500m), to your right after the curve you will see a small pedestrian road named Via XX Settembre and pass under the arch of the yellow Villa, follow this road to the main piazza San Giorgio where a member of the Casa San Giorgio team will be waiting for you. Taxi transfer to the hotel is available at Euro 10.00.
